A Format He Loves. A Format He Can’t Play

Pakistan cricket is one of the most unique cases in the cricketing world.

As a nation, everyone loves cricket.
Despite not being the national sport, it is played in every corner of the country.

Pakistan has been one of the most successful sides in international cricket.
But when it comes to management and portraying Pakistan as a cricketing nation, there’s a silence.
It looks like no one truly cares.

Pakistan produced legends like Abdul Qadir, Imran Khan, Wasim Akram, Saeed Anwar, and Miandad.
They etched their names into history.

And then came Babar Azam, one of the finest cricketers of the modern era.

But it seems like he’s about to lose all his charisma shortly…
Due to the inconsistent approach by management.

Babar is portrayed as the complete player across all three formats.
But what he loves to play is ODIs and Tests.

The irony?
He can’t.

Why?
Because the PCB is more interested in playing T20s.

Take the recent example of the upcoming West Indies tour:
PCB reportedly requested the West Indies board to replace the three-match ODI series with more T20s.
It’s rumored (not confirmed) that the West Indies board declined or showed no interest in the request.

This means Babar will miss yet another tour.

PCB removed Babar from captaincy,
Even though he was performing at his peak.
He was World No.1 in T20 for four straight years.
They didn’t just strip him of leadership,
They removed him from the team.

Babar has played a shockingly low number of matches in the last 15 months —
Despite an ICC Champions Trophy on the horizon.

It seems the PCB is more interested in experimenting
Rather than backing a top contender for the world’s next great,
After Kohli, a comparison was made by analysts and experts across the globe.

As the number of Tests and ODIs for Pakistan against top-tier nations declines,
Players are left with no choice but to explore other options to stay active.

And so,
A great talent, a big thing in Pakistan cricket,
Has been completely sidelined from the center stage for the past 2 years.
